Marked 60 years of work and existence of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Mostar

On Thursday, December 5, 2019. at 11:00, 60 years of work and existence of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Mostar were marked. The celebration was opened with a greeting from Associate Professor Veldin Ovčina, Vice-Rector for Finance at the "Džemal Bijedić" University in Mostar, who addressed the gathering on behalf of the Rector. With sincere congratulations and expressions of pride for what the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has achieved in this period, he gave the floor to the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Rashid Hadzovic. The Minister added that the ministry will intensify support for higher education in the coming years by increasing the allocation for the same.

After the introductory speeches of the representatives of the University and the Ministry, the gathering was addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Associate Professor Safet Isić, Vice Dean for Teaching Assistant Professor Emir Nezirić and Vice Dean for Scientific Research Assistant Professor Edin Džiho. They gave a basic overview of events at the faculty in the last 20 years, and promoted the Faculty Monograph for the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Mostar. In their addresses, special emphasis was placed on: construction of a new faculty building, cooperation with the economy through various projects and services, increasing the capacity of laboratories, improving curricula, and participation in international projects. They stated that in the time to come, the priority will be to rejuvenate the staff and to continue the development of the faculty in the directions that have been clearly defined so far.

Numerous guests, teachers and students attended the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Faculty. We must especially emphasize the presence of the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Mostar Kudret Oytan, former Mufti of the Mostar Mufti Seid ef. Smajkić, who helped obtain funds for the construction of the Faculty building, the dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica, Professor Fuad Hadžikadunić, representatives of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Podgorica and Bihać, and many others.

After the official part, a tour of 7 laboratories of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and 3 centers was organized. There was also a tour of the solar and wind power plants on the terrace of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. After the tours, there was a break with a snack in the meeting room, which was used to talk to numerous guests from the economy with whom the faculty cooperates. Some new types of cooperation have been agreed, in which students will be included.

The celebration continued with a round table on "Contemporary trends in the education of engineers" moderated by Professor Isak Karabegović from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Bihać and Professor Nermina Zaimović-Uzunović. Through the presented presentations and discussion, it was concluded that the education of engineers in the future will have to respond to rapid and frequent changes in society in order to respond to the needs of society.
